This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SL is a European-market example that is said to have been imported to the US in 1985, and it is equipped with an AMG body kit, a rear spoiler, 15″ AMG Penta alloy wheels, and an ATIWE AMG steering wheel. Finished in red over replacement Creme Beige MB-Tex upholstery, the car is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It also has a limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, a brown convertible soft top, a body-color removable hardtop, power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control. Acquired by the seller in 2018, this R107 is now offered with data cards, a 1985 bill of sale, manufacturer’s literature, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

Sorry to be the one to ask. I just bought an 85 500SL and shipped it to Cali, and I’m struggling to get it registered. I have the original EPA letter and all that and it’s still giving me trouble.

Is this one registerable in Cali? Also if anyone has a great mechanic in Los Angeles, or orange county I’d love the recommendation. Every shop I’ve called won’t work on euro 107s
In order to register a grey market vehicle in CA, the vehicle will not only have to have been Federalized, it will have to have been B.A.R. certified for CA. The B.A.R. decal will be located on the driver's door jamb, near the Imported by decal and look like this:

I have never experienced refusal by a shop to service of any of our euro grey market cars owned over the years. That said, they were all B.A.R. certified.
