Great eye Greg...that's a gen2 500, similar to chadahar's Rose with 9:1CR, possibly triy's

Super rare car! Shame its already at a salvage auction yard. Looks to have been originally sold in a French speaking country. Front bumper chrome doesn't appear to be in bad shape, so the bumper repair shouldn't be difficult. A good candidate to be restored and in a nice color combo.

1986 500SEC gen2 euro.
Grabbed this car for about a K after fees - will be delivered from San Jose later this week. Basically a do-over of the chadahar Rose which ultimately got saved. Mainly got it for parts/triy's for the '84 AMG - there is $700 in DMV back fees and 242k on the clock. I would be open to selling the rolling shell with a BOS after I am done with it.
Also parting out a '80 500SE, will post details on benzworld soon.

Love the color on that one too Firewater. Just a little patina added to it.FIREWATER wrote:Oh yeah I saw that on copart a while ago. I got distracted by this though:
Bondavi, how difficult was the process buying your SEC at Copart? Did they refer a broker or did they let you do the leg work. I take it the broker is a $300-$500 additional expense to the auction price plus a bunch of Copart fees? I see a lot of neat cars go through copart here but have been put off by the negative reviews on dealing with Copart and all their fees.

Re: 86 Gen II Euro AMG Bits SEC in SJC
The car went through auction 2-3x before I got it. Basically someone else bid on it for $200, but because it was a "upon approval" sale, the seller approves the bid.
So the next auction around, I registered with AutoBidMaster, an Oregon company which comes HIGHLY recommended, compared to the shady brokers out there. They furnish all the Copart bidder account information electronically.
I bid $475, knowing the seller was probably hoping to get $500 for it.
The next day, I got a counterbid of $525, so I accepted. Being an one-time only buyer through AutoBidMaster, total was $1,044, but if I wanted to keep an account to continue bidding on cars, it's another $150, which I declined until a second Copart purchase, in which I will cover this cost.
So, basically another $519 tacked on the auction price to go through a broker.
The broker takes care of all the paperwork and title you basically go and pick the car up at the Copart location.
Car arrived - seems the only thing wrong is dead fuel pumps. Engine runs pretty good while on the sniffer (ether).

Re: 86 Gen II Euro AMG Bits SEC in SJC
No problem!
Basically the auction fees with AutoBidMaster are fixed - $150 for an membership (or 30-day free if you're just buying one car), $250 transaction fee (doesn't matter on the value).
The Copart fees are what add up: $200 for a $1000 purchase, $300 for $2k, and so on. Internet bid fee, gate fee, etc.
More info here: http://www.autobidmaster.com/howtobuy-c ... ions/fees/
But for the most part I din't have any qualms with the process. Quite a few interesting finds over time, for sure!
