Different indeed. Wonder what sort of figure this one will bring compared to a factory/stock Gullwing.

More info...originally priced at 1M Euro....curious as to how the current auction market values the car.

Yeah, that car at auction will be very interesting to monitor. The cars are all legit gullwings/roadsters. The mods were all done by AMG - not an independent shop. The provenance is there. How will the market respond? Fully restored GW/roadsters are fetching $1.3M - $1.8M currently. I am sure these restomod W198's drive very well and have great performance but we all know that straying from orginality with regards to a classic is usually a death knell on pricing. I am going to estimate the hammer price at $800k - $1M.

I see that the dash is very much modified including real ventilation and A/C. Big knock on the GW is the crappy ventilation and greenhouse affect + no windows to roll down = uncomfortable driving on warm days.

Wonder what happened to all of the original parts and drivetrains that were removed from the SL's by AMG? I bet the Classic Center got a nice bump in available inventory for in-house restorations!

One did sell in 2009 at RM Auction for 462K Sterling or about half of what the original buyer paid for it .

Restomods serve a purpose but I would think it has a different market then an original or restored car.

I would lean toward the sale being much lower then a restored gullwing...as I can't envision multiple bidders.

Interesting that it's R129, W202 and W124 based !!!
