Considering who owned the car, I left everything intact. I just addressed the mechanical and most pressing cosmetic issues. I wanted to drive the car the way it was driven for the last 178k. I have added an additional 5k and it has been a lot of fun. Top down barefoot heading to the beach at a 90+!!!

1982 500SL AMG Getrag 5 Speed

Anthracite over Mushroom w/ Black Soft Top

184k meticulously maintained miles

This is perhaps one of the most desirable configurations of the classic R107 chassis ever available to the public. If not, than it is definitely the most exciting and fun to drive!

It is a true two owner car originally ordered to be built in this configuration by legendary race parts manufacturer Harvey Crane of Crane Cams. Here is a brief article about him from Hemmings: http://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mus/20 ... 18691.html

Clearly Mr. Crane enjoyed driving and maintaining the car. It was purchased from his estate with a little under 180k miles on the odometer and the car is currently at just under 185k.

Shortly after the car was purchased it underwent some restoration costing $5500 which included:
-fully rebuilt front end
-upper/lower arms
-upper/lower inner arm bushings
-replace front/rear s-frame mounts
-replace spring pads
-replace stabilizer bar bushing links
-changed motor mounts
-full timing chain service
-4 wheel alignment
-oil/filter change
-transmission and rear differential gear oil change
-replace front and rear Bilstein shocks
-new steering damper, center link and tie rod assembly
-replace differential mount
-new front brake pads/removed,cleaned, lubricated calipers
-fresh brake fluid
-new belts water pump/alternator/A/C
-rebuilt steering box (fluid,filter,adjust)
-new fuel filter hose drain
-new gas tank main hose
-new gas tank fuel screen seal
-cleaned fuel screen

A new clutch kit will be installed before it is delivered to the next owner.

This car runs and drives like Mercedes/AMG intended it to. The rare 256 close ratio getrag 5 speed was an AMG offered performance option that few could afford in the early 1980's. It really brings the M117 5.0L to life through the gears. As soon as you drive it you'll see why its no wonder that a guy with race cars in his blood like Mr. Crane would have wanted the car set up in this way. Its really a performer through and through and it does it with tons of class and style. 100mph + this car is rock solid on the highway. Not a shake or rattle and the car's handling ability could be classified as "track ready" on the Bilsteins.

Cosmetically, the car's condition is commensurate with age. It was a Florida car all of its life and is bone dry with no rust. The paint has faded on the hood and some on the trunk from the Florida sun but the other surfaces have held up very well. It does have some light denting on the drivers fender/door area that looks like it can be sorted by a PDR professional. The dash is also in nice shape with no cracking. The wood on the center console needs refinishing and the clear coat is peeling there. The mushroom leather seats are not in great shape but certainly acceptable. A set of matching colored powered Recaro Classics are available to be installed.Windows, doors, door handles, locks lighting work as they should. A/C blows on various fan speeds with no trouble but won't get cold. Original Becker radio comes with the car but a more modern CD head unit is currently being used. 1 of the two speakers is working but both should be replaced. You may also be wondering about the trailer hitch. Back in the 80's on the race circuit it was commonplace for cars to carry their own tires, spare parts, etc on a trailer they hauled. Mr. Crane was known for attending circuit and rally racing events in this SL such as the annual Turkey Run: http://www.turkeyrun.com/Turkey_Run_Home.html

Please contact me to for pricing and shipping information. I'm happy to ship this car anywhere in the world.
